Holla! Yes, I still use that word. I.LOVE.It!
Welcome to Embrace My Space. I’m Sara and I’m a recovering lawyer who’s addicted to junk stores, craft markets, shelter magazines, HomeGoods, Etsy, turquoise, capiz shells and spray paint! Seriously, I will spray paint anything. Don’t stand still for too long in my presence…Anyway, this is me back in April 2011 on my wedding day! I was in Key West, about to marry my best friend and enjoying some champagne. Can you say life is good?
About a year after my wedding life turned upside down when my husband took a job with his family’s business. We quit our jobs at Big Law firms, sold our first home in Pittsburgh and moved across the state to live with my in-laws for a bit while the dust from our U-Haul settled. While in limbo, I was missing my home and wanted a way to continue to connect with all the projects I’d done there. So I created Embrace My Space to fill the home decor void. At first, I used this space to blab about projects at my old home, review my favorite design books and share my DIY triumphs with anyone who cared to listen! (For the full story behind my creation of Embrace My Space hop on over to this post)
In November of 2012, we bought our current home, which I like to call a builder’s special. Unlike our 100 year old brick house in Pittsburgh, our current home was (is) full of weird 90’s style wallpaper, brass finishes and devoid of character. Now I use Embrace My Space to share my journey of falling in love with our new home, one space at a time.
Life took another exciting turn in October 2013 when we welcomed our first son to our family. I was so thrilled when we discovered we were expecting and, of course, I immediately went to decorating a nursery! During my pregnancy, whilst in full-on nesting mode, I was blogging incessantly about home projects and all the changes to the nursery (including painting polka-dots on the ceiling when I was seven months pregnant!).
Nowadays, as a work-at-home mom to a busy little boy, I only have time to blog occasionally. Most of my projects are done during nap time and often times I shoot photos for my projects with my son strapped to my body in a woven wrap.
That said, I always try to share unique ideas that I dream up in my journey to turn this builder’s special into a home I love. I’m just learning, but I hope that by sharing my experiences I can help you to embrace your space, and shake what your mama gave ya, and all that kinda stuff that cool people say. And if all I do is inspire you to spray paint your junk before you decide sell it for $1 at a yard sale, well, then I consider all of this well worth it!
Thanks for stopping by today!
